Anime Music Videos
Anime Music Videos (AMVs) are the product of a hobby that you can find scattered across the internet. People (who generally aspire to direct/edit films) cut animated movies and series to a song they like. Mostly anime is used, though cut-scenes from video game and also western cartoons are common too.
The degrees of skill vary wildly, from the simplest WMV editted together by a twelve-year-old in Windows Movie Maker using only simple cuts and fades, to complicated, rhythmically aligned pieces of skill, with multi-layer cuts, lip-synching and frame-by-frame tweaking. The ones collected here are the best I've found.

Top Picks
This is one of the last AMVs Otaku Vengeance did, and it shows: all the extra practice is apparent in the techniques presented. The flicker/cuts between scenes are excellent, and as usual for OV the visuals gel nicely with the audio.
'Holy Crap' was created for entry into a competition. I don't think it won, but I don't really know why not - it's awesome. Maybe a little heavy on gamer humour, but still funny even if you don't know who all your base are belong too.
This is the first AMV I ever saw, so I suppose it's responsible for this entire page. What's to say? It's hilarious... I mean, it's Pikachu, swearing. How can that not be funny?
Other Favourites
This AMV uses footage from Cowboy Bebop, and it does a very good job of capturing the overall feel of that series. It is a little bit spoilerful though, so if you think you may want to watch Cowboy Bebop, you sould probably do that before watching this. The only bit I don't really like is the use of the English language 'Bang' at the end - the English dub of Cowboy Bebop sucks (it starts bad, then you get to hear Faye talk).
Maybe you should check out Otaku Vengeance's 'Wrapped' AMV (above) which uses footage from the movie, and use that to judge whether you want to see the series - the movie is standalone, having no continuity impact with the series. Cowboy Bebop is a really good show, you should definitely watch it if you can.
This is a nice little AMV, with some nice editting. 'Now and Then, Here and There', is a sad, haunting anime, well worth watching. The AMV seems to peter out at the end, but that's actually because the song fades out rapidly like that.
I really like the majority of this song, but the rap part near the end sucks vastly. If you can ignore that though, the AMV is pretty stonking. Gundam is crap, but it's used well here (big robots are cool, and lack of characters, dialog or plot doesn't hurt an AMV).
I remember reading Eric's comments about this on the Otaku Vengeance site - it's one of the first AMVs he did, and he threw it together rapidly, and was surprised at how much people liked it. The thing is, it works. Short and sweet.
Samurai X is the OAV for the Rurouni Kenshin anime, and it works far better in movie form. Mainly due to the superior animation (you can spot the differences with this AMV - there's a section in the middle where there is a stark contrast - a ninja with a chain weapon attacks Kenshin, once in the OAV, and once from the series). The voice acting is great in the OAV too - it's about the only anime in which I prefer the English audio track.
Anyway - the AMV. The song is amazing, I love the backing vocals. I think they are Bavarian? I think this one's by Lord Rae, and he does a good job of nabbing all the good bits from the anime, while still telling a consistent story with the AMV. Mildly spoilerful, but like the 'Cowboy Blues' AMV - it doesn't give the whole game away, but does gain added meaning if you've seen the anime.
I think this was the last AMV released on the Otaku Vengeance website, before it closed down for the last time (it was this or 'Cowboy Bebop - Wrapped'). They have a bad history of web hosts screwing them, which is why it's hard to find their stuff now. I hope they are still making AMVs, and that they get a site back up soon.
More of the same really - good track, good editting. There are some really nice moments: the general sense of spiderman moving via controlled hurtling is well done (though credit for that lies as much with the original show). I really like the bit near the end where Parker/Spiderman looks into a rippling pool of water (it just works for me). OV can do no wrong.
There are (or were when I watched them) two Streetfighter anime movies. One was a pile of dreck, the other is used here, and was actually pretty good. This is probably my least favourite Otaku Vengeance AMV of the ones I actually watch, but it's still solid work.
Lip syncing abounds, but I find it works here. This is a pretty comedic AMV. I like Meryl stomping around making demands with the mad-ass lyrics. Um. Quirky. Yes, that's what it is - quirky. And good.
This should be the most spoilerful AMV ever - it shows practically everything from the 6 part series, including the ending. Luckily, Furi Kuri is completely batshit mental, so there's no real way you can work out anything.
The song works well, especially with Amarao singing it (with his eybrows, no less). You won't be able to follow the story, but what you can do is sit back and soak in the stunning visuals - FLCL is one of the best looking animes I've seen.
Miscellaneous
AMV Hell is a sort of cross between parody and homage, a tribute to AMVs everywhere. This is the first, and best, AMV Hell. It's basically just a lot of short segments joined together, but it's done really well - it's hard to describe, but you'll get it when you watch it.
This is the second AMV Hell. Not as good as the first one, but still watchable.
The people behind AMV Hell also released a feature length AMV Hell - AMV Hell 3. It's a community effort, so it's not quite as well done. It does have a couple of funny moments, but at over an hour in length they're far between. Only if you really really liked parts 1 & 2
There are rumours of an AMV Hell 0, but they can't be true, because that would be wrong. So very wrong.
This is a collection of edits - proto-AMVs that never got expanded into the full thing. A good insight into what inspires AMV editors.
Just like the first special, but this one has Samurai Champloo in it, so it's better.
This is so well done. It's the trailer for 'The Matrix Reloaded', Naruto style. Watch it if you are a fan of either (or just watch it - it's ace).
Like 'The Narutrix', except this is the 'Lord of the Rings' trailer, as played out by various anime characters. The quality is pretty poor, but it has some great moments ('Go on Frodo!')

This was pretty much the video that got me interested in AMVs. 'Pokemon - Bitches' was the first one I saw, but I got that link for it's humour value. On the same page as it (Otaku Vengeance's website) was this AMV. Akira is my favourite anime, so I thought I'd take a look.
Otaku Vengeance have made loads of AMVs, and all of them are quality. This is one of their best - the song rocks, and the scenes seem to fit it perfectly: from the simple meshing of the lyrics ('white light'), to the less direct but still seemless fits like the pipe scraping the ground, or the automatic gunfire near the end. It does have some lip-syncing, which I generally dislike, but only a little. Probably my favourite AMV.
